The traditional 12.5 kilogram butane cylinder will become more expensive in Spain from September 15, with the maximum price rising to 18.84 euros, taxes included. This update represents an increase of approximately 4.96% in the final price, as confirmed by the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition. The price includes delivery to the doorstep and corresponds to the Spanish regulated regime, not applying to cylinders sold on the free market.
The increase is due to rising international reference prices, which went from 543.48 to 582.06 dollars per ton, higher average transport costs, rising from 56.50 to 62.30 dollars per ton, and the euro's depreciation against the dollar. The calculation formula also considers accumulated differences from previous revisions, which are recovered later.
In Portugal, bottled gas prices are free and can vary between suppliers. On commercial websites checked on September 14, Digal butane cost 35.50 euros for a 13 kilogram cylinder, while Galp butane sold by Maxmat cost 35.99 euros for the same weight. ERSE, the Energy Services Regulatory Authority, clarifies that an additional fee may be charged for home delivery.
When adjusting for gas quantity, the two Portuguese examples are about 81% to 84% above the new regulated Spanish price per kilogram. With Digal, VAT is included in the advertised price, but delivery costs are calculated separately and there may also be a deposit when the customer does not return an equivalent empty cylinder.
