The Attorney General is investigating the national director of Polícia Judiciária for crimes of abuse of power and false statements made in court. The investigation comes after a formal complaint filed by a coordinator of the PJ itself, who sent the document directly to the attorney general, bypassing the usual hierarchical channels.
The case involves alleged irregularities in the conduct of the leader of Polícia Judiciária, including accusations that he made false statements during a judicial process. The complaint was considered sufficiently substantiated to justify the opening of an inquiry by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The National Directorate of the PJ has not yet publicly commented on the matter. The case occurs at a time of tension between the police forces and the Public Prosecutor's Office, and may have significant repercussions for the leadership of the institution responsible for criminal investigation in Portugal.
