The Public Ministry has opened an investigation into the director of the Judicial Police, Carlos Cabreiro, for suspected false statements and abuse of power. The case originated from a complaint filed by a PJ coordinator against the director.
Among other matters under investigation are statements made by Carlos Cabreiro in court during the trial of Rui Pinto, the Portuguese hacker who became known for hacking platforms such as Football Leaks and Benfica. The Public Ministry is now investigating whether those statements contained falsehoods or whether there was some form of abuse of power by the director of the PJ.
