A joint operation between the Federal Revenue and the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) allowed the rapid release, in the early morning of Saturday (12), of an experimental substance intended for the treatment of influencer Lito Sousa, 59 years old, diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. The product, which came from New York, in the United States, arrived at São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos, and had its customs clearance completed in a few minutes.
The agility was considered important because the therapeutic potential of the substance can decrease rapidly as the hours pass. Right after landing, the product was taken directly from the aircraft to a helicopter, which transported it to Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, where Lito is being treated.
The speed of the operation was the result of coordinated action between the Federal Revenue and the National Health Surveillance Agency, demonstrating the cooperation between the agencies for medical urgency cases.
