Pope Leo XIV revoked the salary cuts that had been applied at the Vatican due to the covid-19 pandemic. The decision reverses the measures that had been implemented during Pope Francis's management.
The cuts determined by Francis in 2021 varied according to hierarchical position. Cardinals had a 10% reduction in their salaries, while heads and secretaries of dicasteries suffered an 8% cut. In turn, clergy and religious had a 3% decrease in their earnings.
With the revocation of these measures by Leo XIV, salaries at the Vatican should return to pre-pandemic values. The decision marks a change in the financial policy implemented during the previous pontificate to face the economic effects of the global health crisis.
