The Municipal Council of Coimbra, the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region, the University of Coimbra and the Polytechnic University created the new Citizens' Assembly of Coimbra. This assembly aims to bring together citizens to debate and propose solutions for the main challenges of the region.
The first challenge identified by the new Citizens' Assembly of Coimbra is "retaining young people". In other words, finding ways to keep young people in the region after they finish their studies, avoiding the flight of young population to other areas of the country.
This initiative comes in a context where Coimbra and the surrounding region face significant demographic challenges, with the loss of young population to more dynamic urban centers. The assembly aims to give citizens a voice and find participatory solutions to these problems.
