Coimbra will celebrate on Tuesday, the 15th, the 47 years of the National Health Service, at an event organized by the Regional Section of the Centre of the Portuguese Medical Association and by the League of Friends of the University of Coimbra Hospitals. The ceremony takes place at the Convent of São Francisco and includes a program of interventions and debates about the future of public health in Portugal.
The celebrations begin at 9:30 am with interventions from Francisco Maio Matos, President of the Board of Directors of the Local Health Unit of Coimbra, Ana Abrunhosa, President of the Municipal Chamber of Coimbra, and Ana Paula Martins, Minister of Health. At 10:00 am, a panel on the challenges of the NHS takes place, followed at 11:00 am by an approach on the experience of the Portuguese Beneficence of São Paulo in the Unified Health System, with the participation of Executive Director Juliana Opipari.
At 11:15 am, António Ferreira, an Internal Medicine Physician and Full Professor at Fernando Pessoa University, will discuss a NHS with a Future, followed by a tribute to NHS professionals. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 11:45 am, with the presence of President of the Republic António José Seguro pending confirmation.
At 12:30 pm, the symbolic watering of the SNS Olive Tree will occur, a gesture symbolizing renewal and hope for the NHS's continuity and growth, near the Portugal Centro Pavilion in Mondego Green Park.
