The 12th edition of "Our Culture Takes to the Streets" takes place on September 19th in Mexilhoeira Grande, within the scope of the European Heritage Days, this year with the theme "Revive, Resist, Reinvent". The event aims to motivate reflection on the value of cultural heritage and the need to preserve it for current and future generations, reinforcing the sense of cultural identity and collective memory.
The initiative begins at 9:30 am with a route through the Espargueira area, near Quinta da Rocha, led by Filipe Bally Jorge, head of the Environment Division of the Portimão City Council. The main part of the event takes place from 4 pm, on the square of the Church of Mexilhoeira Grande, with a showcase of local flavors, art and crafts.
Throughout the afternoon various activities take place, including the "Olha a Modinha" segment by the Grupo de Cantares Mexilhoeirense, workshops on empreita and esteira, art ateliers on ceramics, clay modeling, preparation of taipa and traditional games. The Sociedade Recreativa Figueirense promotes a gastronomic workshop on xerém de berbigão, while the association "A Rocha" raises awareness about the natural heritage of the parish.
The event also features performances by the Rancho Folclórico da Figueira, Brasa Doirada and a theatrical moment by the Gilletes d'Aço group, followed by the traditional desfolhada and the "Há Baile no Adro" celebration. The organization is by the Portimão City Council, with production by the Museu de Portimão and the Parish Council of Mexilhoeira Grande, with the collaboration of several local associations.
