The European Court of Justice condemned the Portuguese State to compensate workers who had been dismissed by TAP in 1993. The European court's decision comes following an assessment of compliance with European law by the Portuguese authorities.
The court concluded that the Portuguese Supreme Court of Justice violated European law in a decision it had issued in 2009. This previous decision by the Portuguese court was related to the case of dismissals carried out by TAP.
The condemnation means that the State will have to financially compensate the workers affected by the 1993 dismissal process. The case represents an important precedent in the application of European law on labor matters in Portugal.
