FMUP and Porto Municipality train community to save lives

SAPO Notícias14 September 2026 at 09:27

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and the Municipality of Porto are holding a new edition of "mass training" in Basic Life Support on September 26, at Parque da Cidade do Porto. This training aims to teach the community to act quickly in emergency situations.

The event is aimed at all citizens who wish to learn first aid techniques, without the need for prior knowledge. FMUP and the Porto City Council intend to train as many people as possible to increase the population's response capacity in case of medical emergencies.

Knowing how to recognize cardiac arrest and immediately initiating resuscitation maneuvers significantly increases the chances of survival of victims. Rapid action before the arrival of emergency services can make the difference between life and death.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote health literacy and community preparedness for emergency situations, contributing to creating a network of citizens equipped to intervene in critical cases.

Why this matters

Porto residents have the opportunity to participate free of charge in training that can enable them to save lives in emergency situations. The initiative responds to the need to increase the number of people with first aid skills in the community, contributing to a more effective response while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
