Students from six countries — Canada, Ecuador, France, India, Italy and Liberia — began the International Master's program Vigne, Vin et Gestion du Terroir (Vintage) at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), a program focused on viticulture, enology and wine management. The welcoming ceremony was attended by UTAD's Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Patrícia Poeta, and representatives from other partner institutions.
During the first semester, the students will have practical experiences integrating into farms and wineries in renowned Portuguese wine regions, including Douro, Dão, Alentejo and Vinhos Verdes. This experience will allow them to follow the entire production process, from harvest to vinification.
The Master's program, created in 2002, is part of a European consortium of higher education institutions, with UTAD being the only Portuguese university involved. The course aims to prepare students for the challenges of a constantly changing and innovating wine sector.
The presence of these international students underscores UTAD's global dimension and consolidates its reputation as a reference institution in viticulture and enology, playing an important role in connecting with the wine sector in a region where wine production has significant economic, cultural and scientific importance.
