In response, Moraes used a Federal Police intelligence report to point to alleged criminal conduct by Mendonça, escalating the tension between the two ministers. This dynamic caused different factions of Bolsonaroism, which frequently compete with each other, to adopt a unified discourse in support of Mendonça.
Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, a Senate candidate for PL in the Federal District, and former congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, from PL in São Paulo, exemplified this unity by adopting similar positions on the crisis. Michelle, presented as a close ally of Mendonça in the text, thus aligns herself with the group defending the minister within the Bolsonaroist landscape.
