Economist Luan Monteiro, candidate for the PCO party for governor of Rio de Janeiro, defends controversial ideas such as arming the population and abolishing the PM (Military Police). In an interview, he stated that drug trafficking "yields to pressure or goes to war" with an armed population, showing his position on public security.
The interview was conducted in Praça Seca, a neighborhood where Monteiro lived most of his life and where he returned to defend his ideas, which go beyond security and include opinions on soccer and history. The candidate also commented on the history of Brazil and his party's position regarding it. According to him, the left has the habit of attacking Brazilian history, but PCO understands that "everything is a development process." The main square in the region, Barão da Taquara, which gives the neighborhood its name, is cited in the local historical context.
Monteiro clarified that PCO does not participate in elections to make promises. When asked if he would be the "Liar Candidate," a reference to a Bezerra da Silva song, he explained that it is not about fear, but about the party's political stance.
