The 75 elderly people affected by the fire that broke out on Wednesday at a nursing home in Darque, Viana do Castelo, returned yesterday to the institution after spending the night at the nursery. The fire, which originated from maintenance work on the laundry pipe, destroyed about six rooms in the Elderly Residential Facility and in the Continuing Care unit, also affecting the dining hall with the water used to fight the flames. The director of the Parish Centre for Social and Cultural Promotion of Darque praised the readiness of the staff and the speed of the firefighters, noting that there were no injuries and that the institution has the capacity to accommodate the elderly without transferring them to other facilities.
