The Municipal Council of Castelo Branco began on Monday, September 14th, the reconstruction of a section of the wall on Rua Vaz Preto. The intervention aims to stabilize the ancient structure and reinforce safety conditions in the pedestrian and road area, fitting within the municipal works of preservation of the built heritage and consolidation of slopes and masonry in the city.
The works focus on the recovery of the degraded section, with the objective of halting the loss of stone elements and correcting instabilities accumulated over the years. The technical intervention includes the careful dismantling of sections at risk of collapse, the cleaning of the historic masonry, and the subsequent reconstruction with materials compatible with the original design.
The installation of the construction site and the movement of heavy machinery impose traffic restrictions during the execution of the work. Pedestrian circulation on the sidewalk adjacent to the wall suffers occasional interruptions, with pedestrians being redirected to alternative routes. Temporary narrowing of the road lane and possible momentary closures for loading and unloading of materials are planned.
The council has not yet disclosed the detailed specifications, nor the overall execution timeline nor the final budget of the project. The effective start on site was dependent on the completion of the temporary signage and the installation of protection structures. Users of Rua Vaz Preto should pay attention to the temporary signage until the completion of the works and the full restoration of normal traffic.
