The Socialist Party (PS) proposes parental leave of 150 days paid at 100%, which can be extended up to 180 days if shared between the two parents. The Socialists thus align with the obligation of time sharing between parents for the period to be extended, although they are less demanding than PSD on this matter.
The PS also admits that, under certain conditions, parental leave can reach eight months paid at 80%, which represents a significant extension of the currently existing rights regarding parental leave.
This proposal comes in the context of political negotiations surrounding the reformulation of parental leave in Portugal, in a debate that involves different parties and visions on the best way to reconcile family and professional life for parents.
