Thousands of people marched this Sunday in Culiacán, the capital of the Mexican state of Sinaloa, demanding an end to the violence caused by the local drug cartel. The demonstration brought together civilians who protested against the insecurity situation affecting the region.
The state of Sinaloa is territory of the famous drug cartel that bears the same name, responsible for much of the violence in the area. Local residents have been suffering from clashes between rival criminal groups.
The war between criminal groups has already caused approximately 3,000 deaths over a period of two years. The high number of victims has led the population to take to the streets to demand measures from the authorities.
The protesters demand that the government take immediate action to contain the violence and restore peace in the Sinaloa region.
