Grêmio is already close to announcing a new head coach. Just hours after announcing the dismissal of Luís Castro, the Gaúcho tricolor has moved forward with the return of the idol Renato Gaúcho. A few details separate the signing of a contract valid until December 2026.
Despite some internal resistance, the executive board of Grêmio's football department was convinced by the directors and the strong appeal from fans, who shouted Renato's name after the defeat to Vasco last Saturday at the Arena, in the Brazilian Championship. Grêmio reached out to Renato immediately after Luís Castro's dismissal and was already discussing the financial aspects.
Renato arrives with the mission of saving the club from relegation. The Gaúcho team is in 16th place in the Brasileirão, with the same 28 points as Vasco and Internacional, who are in the relegation zone. Additionally, the club is still in the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil, where they will face Atlético-MG in November.
Renato has been without a club since his previous departure from Grêmio. The official announcement of the signing is expected soon, with only the finalization of some contractual details remaining.
