The archaeological works referring to the 6th excavation campaign in the area designated Cerca das Alcarias are in their final stage. These excavations are taking place in Aldeia da Mesquita village, belonging to the parish of Espírito Santo, in the municipality of Mértola. The archaeological research project is already in its sixth consecutive edition of excavations at the site. The area of Cerca das Alcarias has been the subject of systematic study, proving to be an important archaeological site in the Baixo Alentejo region.
