The Portuguese State will have to compensate workers dismissed by TAP 33 years ago, following a legal process that reached the Court of Justice of the European Union. The case dates back to the collective dismissal of Air Atlantis, after its liquidation by TAP in 1993.
The affected workers filed an action against the Portuguese State for damages caused by violations of EU law. The process reached the Supreme Court of Justice, which issued a ruling on the matter in 2009.
The Court of Justice of the European Union gave reason to the workers, confirming that there were effectively violations of EU law that justify compensation from the State. This decision represents an important milestone in the defense of these workers' rights, who had been waiting for more than three decades for a resolution.
