Christ the Redeemer received yellow illumination in Rio de Janeiro, between 7 PM and 8 PM on Thursday (10). The action marked World Suicide Prevention Day and sought to draw attention to mental health care. The illumination was part of Yellow September, an awareness campaign on suicide prevention.
The action was carried out by the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary in partnership with the Brazilian Psychiatric Association (ABP). The president of ABP, Antônio Geraldo, stated that people showing warning signs should seek care at health services. According to him, recognizing these signs and access to medical and psychiatric care are fundamental measures in risk situations.
The rector of the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, Father Omar, also advocated for seeking help and remembered the importance of listening to people who are facing difficulties.
