Alison dos Santos confirmed his dominance in the 400 meters with hurdles by winning the final at the Ultimate Budapest, a brand-new World Athletics event held this Sunday. The Brazilian gave the main contenders no chance, leaving behind American Rai Benjamin, Olympic and world champion, and Norwegian Karsten Warholm, three-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist at Tokyo-2020.
Piu again ran under 46 seconds in the final, maintaining the impressive pace that led him to set the world record in the event. His time of 45 seconds and 80 hundredths remains the best mark in the history of the discipline.
The Brazilian remained unbeaten this season, having achieved victories in all the 400 meters with hurdles events he competed in. Less than two weeks ago, he broke the world record by running 45.80, surpassing Warholm's previous time of 45.94, at the Diamond League stop in Zurich, Switzerland.
The Ultimate Budapest is the first edition of this event, which works as a hybrid championship, a mix of official competition and gala event. In the competition, the world's athletics elite competes for significant cash prizes.
