Artificial intelligence is being increasingly used by cybercriminals to automate attacks. A new report from Anthropic reveals a particularly concerning case: hackers used Claude to analyze 1.8 million Android applications.
According to the report, cybercriminals took advantage of Claude's advanced natural language processing capabilities to examine a vast number of applications, possibly to identify vulnerabilities or collect sensitive data.
Anthropic, the company that created Claude, decided to publicly share this discovery to alert the technology industry and authorities to the dangers associated with the misuse of artificial intelligence tools by malicious actors.
This case illustrates how the same technology that can be used for legitimate and beneficial purposes can also be exploited by cybercriminals to scale their operations unprecedentedly.
