Colonel Antônio Carlos Nunes, known as Colonel Nunes, died at the age of 87 this Sunday. He had been hospitalized for more than six months at a private hospital in Belém, Pará, due to complications from surgery to remove a tumor in his head performed years earlier.
Colonel Nunes was born on November 21, 1938, in Monte Alegre, Pará, a city of which he was mayor. He was an officer in the Military Police reserve and a fan of Paysandu. He built a career as a football executive, presiding over the Pará Football Federation (FPF) during different periods for nearly 20 years.
Elected vice president of the CBF in December 2015, Colonel Nunes served as interim president of the entity that governs Brazilian football for several months in 2016 and 2021, as well as the period between 2017 and 2019.
The CBF mourned the passing of Colonel Nunes, highlighting his legacy marked by the strengthening of football in Pará.
