Young people from Frazão bring the Holocaust to the stage and leave a reflection about the current world

Jornal 36013 September 2026 at 11:56

A group of young people from the Frazão/Arreigada Theatre Workshop - Boca de Cena brought to the stage of Quinta do Calvário, in Frazão, the play "Where Each Number Regains a Name," a creation that starts from the memory of the Holocaust to reflect on current reality. The play was presented on September 11 and 12, with dramaturgy by Rita Melo and shared direction between Rita Melo and Sofia Ribeiro.

On stage were 22 young people: Ana Leonor, Bia, Carol, Carolina, David, Gabi, Henrique, Íris, Jacó, Joana, Leonor, Luana, Luís, Maria Rita, Mariana, Martinho, Noa, Rita, Teixeira and Tiago. The production also involved Sofia Ribeiro in choreography and lighting, Alírio Sousa in set design, Armanda Silva in costumes, and Rita Melo and Sofia Ribeiro in sound design.

The theatrical proposal seeks to question the reality of our days and remember the importance of looking at people beyond numbers, statistics and labels. The presentation was attended by the councilor from Paços de Ferreira Municipal Council, Andreia Nunes, and the president of the Parish Council of Frazão, Joaquim Sérgio.

The Frazão/Arreigada Theatre Workshop has been asserting itself in the local and regional theatre scene, having won six distinctions at the VI Theatre Days of the Grupo Mérito Dramático Avintense in 2025, including the awards for Best Direction, Best Production, Best Sound Design and Best Lighting Design. The group has also presented "Submerso" and "There is Truth in Delirium" at the Fernando Santos Theatre Festival in Freamunde.

Why this matters

Readers from Frazão and Paços de Ferreira have access to a local theatrical production of great artistic merit that connects the historical memory of the Holocaust to contemporary reflections on dehumanization, something relevant in a context where identity and inclusion issues continue to mark the social debate. The work of Boca de Cena demonstrates the cultural growth of the young community of the parish, which through performing arts assumes a role of reflection and education for the community.
