Starting September 14, 2026, changes in fuel prices in Portugal are expected. The price of gasoline is expected to drop by about 6 cents per liter, while diesel is expected to increase by about 4 cents per liter. On Friday, September 11, the average price of diesel was at 2.112 euros per liter and gasoline at 2.1 euros per liter.
If the forecasts are confirmed, the average price of diesel will rise to 2.15 euros per liter and gasoline will fall to 2.04 euros per liter. However, there may be fuel stations with less significant price variations, since the sector is liberalized and each station sets its own pricing policy.
The changes in prices are directly related to the current context of war in the Middle East, involving the United States, Israel and Iran in military attacks in the region. The conflict led to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of world oil and natural gas trade passes.
This situation has been causing strong oscillations in fuel prices in Europe and, consequently, in Portugal, directly affecting consumers and the national energy sector.
