José Luís Carneiro accused Chega of trying to deceive Portuguese people regarding fuel prices. The government official considered that the proposal from André Ventura's party to lower fuel prices constitutes an "attempt at deception" directed at citizens.
Carneiro recalled that Chega had previously rejected similar measures when they were presented by the Socialist Party. The socialist questioned the change of position by the right-wing party and suggested that Chega's new proposal is not genuine.
The accusation arises in the context of a political debate about fuel costs in Portugal, where different parties present proposals to alleviate the impact on consumers. The topic has been particularly relevant due to the rise in energy and fuel prices in recent years.
