A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in an area of scrubland and pasture in the Beja municipality, in a location known as Guarita Nova. The alert was given at 6:35 PM on Saturday and the fire was given as controlled at 10:42 AM today, about 16 hours after the initial alert, according to Civil Protection.
The Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of Baixo Alentejo indicated that at 11:00 AM, 92 operatives were involved in mop-up operations, supported by 31 vehicles.
During Saturday night, firefighters monitored the possibility of evacuating a location where a wedding party was taking place, but the evacuation proved unnecessary.
