OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, ruled out the company's stock market listing this year, stating that an initial public offering (IPO) would be "inadvisable" given the growing concerns about advances in artificial intelligence. The statements were made to Fortune magazine and postpone until 2027 one of the most anticipated IPOs in the sector.
Altman revealed he agrees with rival Anthropic's CEO, Dario Amodei, on the need to slow the pace of AI development. Amodei published a three-step plan to moderate this development without compromising commercial advantage or the United States' leadership in the field.
Concerns were intensified by comments on social media X from an Anthropic researcher, who warned that the people developing this technology "believe it could kill us all by the end of this decade." Amodei's statements have already received support from Elon Musk, owner of xAI, and from Altman himself, demonstrating industry consensus on the risks associated with the technology.
