Chilean authorities detained around 300 people during demonstrations held in memory of the victims of Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship. The announcement was made by the Government on Saturday.
The Chilean Executive had not organized official commemorations for the occasion. Despite this, thousands of people took to the streets to pay tribute to the victims of the military regime.
The detentions occurred in the context of anniversary demonstrations marking the fall of Pinochet, which took place in 1990. Pinochet's dictatorship governed Chile between 1973 and 1990.
