Two PSP unions demand from the MAI negotiation of "matters that truly matter"

Sábado12 September 2026 at 21:45

Two Police Security Public unions demanded from the Ministry of Internal Administration the negotiation of matters they consider truly important for the profession. The unions expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of negotiations and want the Government to focus on issues that really affect the officers.

The unions want to negotiate with the executive the improvement of the career development of PSP professionals. This demand arises in a context of claims for better working conditions and career progression for police officers.

New negotiating meetings are scheduled for September 17 and 29. These dates represent an opportunity for the Ministry and the unions to reach an agreement on the matters under discussion.

The two unions involved intend to pressure the Ministry of Internal Administration to pay attention to their claims and prioritize the negotiations they consider most relevant for PSP officers.

Why this matters

Readers in Portugal are directly affected by this negotiation, as the working conditions of PSP officers impact public safety and the quality of police service. The unions want guarantees that the Executive will debate issues such as career progression and professional valorization, themes that can influence the morale and effectiveness of the police force.
