The Venice Festival awarded the Golden Lion to the film "Woman Unknown", directed by May el-Toukhy. The Danish director was one of only two women in competition at the event.

The film "Possible Love" won the Silver Prize at the same festival. This was another highlight of Venice's main competition.
The Venice Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film events in the world. This year's edition had limited female representation among the directors in competition.
