Former Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Paes used a decision by the Regional Federal Court of the 2nd Region (TRF2) to criticize his main opponent in the race for state governor, Douglas Ruas. The court made former deputy TH Joias and former secretary Alessandro Pitombeira Carracena defendants, both linked to former governor Cláudio Castro, of the PL party.
The decision was mentioned by Paes during a campaign event for federal deputy Laura Carneiro (PSD-RJ) on Saturday morning at Espaço Hall in Jacarepaguá, in the state capital. On that occasion, Paes highlighted that Carracena was the Consumer Defense Secretary in the government of Cláudio Castro, from the same party as Douglas Ruas.
TH Joias was associated by Paes with the Red Command during his speech. The Federal Public Ministry's indictment points out that he stored 200kg of drugs and controlled cocaine sales payments.
The former mayor also commented on the relationship between Cláudio Castro and banker Daniel Vorcaro, a subject that resurfaced after the lifting of the investigation's seals by the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
