The coordinator of Left Block harshly criticized the Government's posture regarding the shortage of teachers in Portuguese schools, classifying the government responses as "empty talk." Mariana Leitão, who is the party's spokesperson, considered that the Executive has not demonstrated any concrete commitment to the valorization of the teaching profession.
According to Pureza, the Government gave "no signal" of material valorization of the teaching profession. This criticism arises in the context of a persistent problem in the Portuguese educational system, where many students continue without an assigned teacher.
The issue of precariousness and devaluation of teachers has been one of Left Block's flags, which has pressured the executive to take effective measures. Pureza's criticism comes at a time when several schools face difficulties in attracting and retaining teachers.
