The executive director and founder of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, made an appeal for artificial intelligence companies to slow down the pace of technology development. In a blog post, he stated that risk prevention should be a priority and called on the sector to advance more slowly and cautiously.
Amodei declared that humanity should reduce the pace at which it improves AI model capabilities. According to him, progress will continue to appear fast, but it is necessary to make smart use of the time that will be gained with this slowdown.
The executive is one of the leading figures in the AI sector and leads the company responsible for the virtual assistant Claude, directly competing with OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT. Anthropic has publicly positioned itself as a company more cautious regarding artificial intelligence risks.
Amodei's appeal comes days after an AI researcher, who had left OpenAI to work at Anthropic for considering the company more prudent, completely abandoned the sector. The researcher accused both American companies of "playing with our lives."
