Fluminense announced the death of Paulo Sérgio Scudiere Angioni, the club's executive football director, at 80 years old, on Saturday morning in Rio de Janeiro. Angioni had been hospitalized in a hospital in Rio's South Zone since early September, where he was being treated for pancreatic cancer.
The club reported that Angioni had one of the longest and most successful careers in Brazilian football, being a pioneer in the executive director role in the country. He had stints with the Brazilian national team and other major clubs in the country.
This was Angioni's fourth stint at Fluminense, which began in 2018. The club highlighted that he was one of the main responsible for the conquest of several recent titles, including the 2020 Taça Rio, 2022, 2023 and 2026 Taça Guanabara, 2022 and 2023 Carioca Championships, in addition to the Conmebol Libertadores and the Recopa.
Fluminense's note also recalled that, beyond the sporting achievements, Angioni stood out "fundamentally for the collection of friends he accumulated throughout his career."
