The Creation in Street Arts, Circus, Dance and Theatre competition of the DGArtes 2025 Project Support Program supported 84 artistic projects with a total of 2,090,000 euros. Of the 275 applications submitted, 189 were left without support, with 158 receiving no funding as the total available amount of approximately two million euros was exhausted. Another 31 applications were not granted support for not reaching the required minimum score of 60%.
The majority of supported projects are in the Theatre area (54), followed by Dance (26), circus (three) and Street Arts (one). Geographically, 27 are from the Greater Lisbon region, 26 from the North, 13 from the Center, six in the West and Tagus Valley, six from Alentejo, three from the Setúbal Peninsula, one from the Algarve, one from the Azores and one from Madeira. Among the supported projects are those by Arena Ensemble, Sara Carinhas, Filandorra – Teatro do Nordeste, Andresa Soares, Coletivo Espaço Invisível, Teatro da Palmilha Dentada and Teatro Experimental de Lagos, which took place mainly in national territory until February 2028.
The DGArtes 2025 Project Support Program has a total allocation of 13.35 million euros, the same value as 2023 and 2024, with the application deadline being extended until April 02 due to bad weather that affected the artistic sector, especially in the Center region. Representative organizations of the Culture sector have been repeatedly warning about delays in opening competitions and their underfunding, a situation that has repeated in previous years.
This year, results from other DGArtes competitions have also been announced. In the Internationalization competition, 115 projects were supported, with 41 left without support due to lack of funds. In the Programming competition, 71 projects were supported, with 110 applications without support due to lack of funds. In the Disciplinary Crossing, about one third of the 283 applications was left without support, with 99 projects being supported. In the Visual Arts competition, 74 projects are supported with approximately 1.9 million euros, with 60 left without funding due to lack of funds.
