Felgueiras will host one of the country's largest robotics events. 12,000 visitors expected

Felgueiras Magazine12 September 2026 at 11:52

Felgueiras will host, between April 21 and 24, 2027, the National Robotics Festival (FNR) – RoboCup Portugal Open, one of the main national events dedicated to robotics and artificial intelligence. The public presentation of the initiative will take place on September 16, at 5:30 PM, at the Exhibition Space "Passado, Presente e Futuro" (Past, Present and Future), in Felgueiras.

The Festival results from a partnership between the Professional School of Felgueiras, the Portuguese Robotics Society, the School of Technology and Management of the Technical University of Porto and the Municipality of Felgueiras, with the support of Ciência Viva. The organization expects the event to bring together around 600 participants and more than 12,000 visitors, including national and international teams, serving as a qualification stage for RoboCup.

The program includes two competition categories. The Júnior category features modalities such as First Challenger, RoboCupJunior Search and Rescue, Soccer and OnStage. The Major category will bring together competitions in Humanoids, RoboCup@Home, Dragster, 2D and 3D Simulation, Industrial Robotic Manipulators, FlyBots (drones) and the Micromouse Portuguese Contest.

The event will reinforce the link between robotics and strategic sectors for the local and regional economy, such as footwear, metalworking, textiles, agri-food, health and electronics. One of the differentiating elements will be the integration with FEELTEK – Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Education Showcase, with the expectation of involving up to 40 technology companies and emerging sectors.

Why this matters

Felgueiras will host one of the country's largest robotics events, expecting 12,000 visitors and 600 participants, which represents a significant opportunity for the municipality and surrounding region. The event connects robotics and emerging technologies with strategic local industries such as footwear, mechatronics, textile, healthcare, and agribusiness, while also serving as an international qualification stage for the RoboCup world competition.

The law restricts automatic video playback, algorithmic feeds based on user history and profiles, and features designed to keep young people permanently connected. Tech companies will have until 2027 to comply with the new rules, which represent one of the state's largest interventions in the technology industry.

Meta's Oversight Board Asks That Professional Fact-Checking Not Be Replaced by 'Community Notes' in Latin America

Meta's Oversight Board asked the company not to replace its professional fact-checking program with the "Community Notes" system in 16 Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. The Board argues that the two mechanisms are complementary and serve different purposes, warning that "Community Notes," created by ordinary users, can be counterproductive in repressive regimes or highly polarized countries. Meta plans to implement the new system in the region, and the Board urges the company not to present "Community Notes" as a direct replacement for professional fact-checking, asking that tools protecting freedom of expression while addressing the harms caused by misinformation be used.
