The Superior Court of Justice decided to keep Rogério de Andrade, identified as one of the leaders of the illegal lottery in Rio de Janeiro, in a special disciplinary regime at a federal prison. The decision was signed by Minister Rogerio Schietti and granted a special appeal by the Public Ministry of Rio.
The measure overturns a ruling by the Court of Justice of Rio that had determined the transfer of the illegal gambling operator back to the state prison system. Currently, Rogério de Andrade is imprisoned at the Federal Prison of Campo Grande, in Mato Grosso do Sul.
He has been in preventive custody since October 2024 and has been serving the special disciplinary regime since November of that year. The gambler is a defendant for the qualified homicide of rival Fernando Iggnácio, committed in November 2020, and also faces charges for membership in a criminal organization.
