The strike at INEM was called off after the intervention of the health minister, who demonstrated "commitment" in the negotiations with professionals. The negotiation process resulted in a set of measures to reinforce emergency medical resources in Portugal.
Among the main agreed measures, five new Immediate Life Support (SIV) vehicles will be deployed in areas of the country that currently lack adequate response. Additionally, ten other vehicles will be accompanied by ambulances to improve territorial coverage.
As part of the human resources reinforcement, a competition for the hiring of 200 new technicians is planned by the end of the year. This measure aims to address the staffing shortages that have affected INEM's operations.
Firefighters will also be covered by the agreed measures, with the promise of more specialized training for these professionals who play a crucial role in responding to emergency situations.
