After ten years deactivated, the cable car at the Alemão Complex, in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, is finally receiving new equipment for its rehabilitation. 7 kilometers of steel cables arrived at the site, corresponding to 78 tons in weight, which will be used in the recovery of the public transportation system.
The material is part of a package of electromechanical equipment purchased from the French company POMA, holder of the exclusive technology already installed in the equipment. The acquisition was made by the state government of Rio de Janeiro through an international letter of credit.
The cables were stored at the Special Operations Command of the Military Police, in Ramos, from where they were transported to the Palmeira/Fazendinha station. The operation was divided into two stages to avoid impacts on Brazil Avenue traffic.
The first coil left the COE on Wednesday night heading to the construction site of MPE Engenharia e Serviços, the company contracted to install the equipment. The second stage of the operation took place on Friday, with the transport of more cable coils to the site.
