The German Alexander Zverev advanced to the US Open final by defeating Russian Karen Khachanov in three sets in the tournament semifinal. The match was decided in tiebreaks, with Zverev winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) and 7-6 (7-4).
With this victory, Zverev reaches his third consecutive Grand Slam final. The tennis player had already been a finalist at the Australian Open and Roland Garros this season.
Khachanov, who had never reached a Grand Slam semifinal before, was eliminated at this stage of the competition in New York. The Russian failed to withstand the German's favorite status.
Zverev now seeks his first Grand Slam title in his career. The German will play the final against the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.
