IPMA Presents Poster on Madeiran Seismicity

The IPMA presented a poster on the seismicity of Madeira on September 10, 2026. The presentation took place during the "25th National Physics Conference and 36th Iberian Meeting for Physics Education", which was held at the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon.

The event took place between September 9 and 12 and brings together the national physics community. The conference covers teachers from Basic to Higher Education, functioning as a forum for discussion and knowledge sharing in the area of physics.

Two fireballs and an unusual red sprite leave stunning images in Spain

The Calar Alto Observatory, in the province of Almería, Spain, recorded during the early mornings of September 10 and 11 three notable astronomical phenomena: two fireballs of cometary origin and a red "sprite". The first fireball occurred at 02:29 on the 10th, when a rock detached from a comet entered the atmosphere at approximately 128,000 km/h, beginning at 98 km altitude over the province of Ciudad Real. The cameras also documented a red sprite, a phenomenon lasting only between 3 and 10 milliseconds, triggered by a strong storm in the observatory region.
