After repeated refusals for use of Maracanã, Vasco studies going to court to challenge the bidding process

Vasco's board is considering taking the matter to civil court to request the annulment of the Maracanã bidding process, which is currently under the management of the consortium administered by Flamengo and Fluminense. The club believes that no proper competitive process was held that took into account the possibility of the club itself participating in the stadium's administration.

The movement gained momentum after repeated refusals by the consortium to allow Vasco to use the Maracanã, especially due to Flamengo's influence in the contract with Fluminense. Recently, there was another denial for Vasco to use the venue for the Sul-Americana match against Santa Fé, scheduled for September 15. The club has already been notified and has moved the game to São Januário.

The same situation occurred with the match against Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil on November 8, which was also denied, though informally. Vasco claims there are no possible negotiations for playing at the stadium, as both the consortium and the Rio State Government are controlled by people linked to Flamengo, which would make the Maracanã unviable for reasons that are political rather than technical.
