BMW has taken a new step towards its first hydrogen-powered production car. The current BMW iX5 Hydrogen prototypes have started a new phase of testing under real conditions, while the company simultaneously advances in the industrialization of its fuel cell system.
The German brand has set ambitious objectives for this model. The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is expected to offer a range of up to 750 kilometers, refueling in under five minutes, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h expected in under five seconds.
The development of the vehicle is part of a broader strategy by BMW to diversify its propulsion options, complementing the existing offering of battery electric vehicles. Hydrogen fuel cell technology represents an alternative for those who need greater flexibility, especially in markets where charging infrastructure is limited.
