The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro opened an inquiry at the end of August to investigate the sale of tickets exceeding the capacity of the Maracanã during matches of Flamengo and Fluminense. The investigation was opened by the Specialized Group for Sports and Supporter Defense (Gaedest/MPRJ) and has already been sent to the Office of Justice for Urbanism with suspicions of irregularities committed by Fla-Flu Serviços S.A., the company that manages the stadium.
According to the General Sports Law, article 147 provides that teams that sell tickets above capacity may be prohibited from playing in stadiums in their city for up to six months, which would be a severe punishment for the Rio clubs.
However, MP-RJ intends to avoid litigation of the case and harm to the clubs during the rest of the season. To this end, the prosecutor's office awaits the position of the boards of Flamengo and Fluminense, in addition to the Fla-Flu Serviços S.A. consortium, to propose a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC) that resolves the issue administratively.
In addition to the clubs, the Ferj (Rio de Janeiro State Football Federation) and the companies responsible for ticket sales and logistics, such as FutebolCard and Cognitive Ruptix Soluções, are involved in the investigation and will be heard throughout the process.
