The President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, commemorated this Friday the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. In his speech, he remembered the victims of the terrorist attack on that date, among whom nine Portuguese and people of Portuguese origin.
The head of State emphasized the importance of the transatlantic bond between Portugal and the United States as a way to face the new threats that currently pose challenges to international security.
This commemoration comes at a time when 25 years are marked since the world witnessed the coordinated attacks that destroyed the twin towers in New York and struck the Pentagon, causing thousands of deaths.
