"Menopause reveals the poor, delayed and unequal way women's health is still treated" - Cristina Mesquita de Oliveira, president of the VIDAs association

SAPO11 September 2026 at 12:15

Cristina Mesquita de Oliveira, president and founder of the VIDAs association, alerts to the precarious, delayed and unequal way women's health continues to be treated in the context of menopause. In an interview, the specialist in health communication and author of the book "Simplifying Menopause" denounces that menopause continues outside the center of health policies, despite the direct impact on the lives of millions of women.

The president of the VIDAs association identifies a structural problem that goes beyond the clinical dimension of the issue. Cristina Mesquita de Oliveira points to significant failures in three fundamental areas: the recognition of the theme as a priority, the adequate follow-up of women in this phase of life, and access to appropriate healthcare.

The situation represents a significant gap in public health policies, since menopause affects a substantial part of the female population and has direct consequences on the quality of life of women going through this hormonal transition.
