Finland completes 200-kilometre barrier on the border with Russia: cost 356 million euros

Finland concluded the construction of a physical barrier along 200 kilometres on its border with Russia. The fence, which cost 356 million euros, represents a significant reinforcement of security measures on the Finnish border.

The project aims to strengthen the protection of the Nordic country's borders, which share the longest land border between any NATO member and Russia. Finland became a NATO member in April 2023, which made this border particularly strategic for the Western alliance.

The installation of this barrier comes in a context of increased tensions in Europe, with Helsinki continuously investing in the modernization of its border defences since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
