The University of Porto officially launched its first Citizenship, Volunteering and Social Responsibility Week, which will take place between September 21 and 26. The initiative was organized by ReVIReS — the Volunteer, Inclusion and Social Responsibility Network of the institution, with the motto "A week to reflect, participate and transform". The event aims to promote civic and solidarity engagement of the academic community, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The program includes conferences, volunteer actions, workshops, awareness campaigns, health screenings, a solidarity walk and a solidarity fair that will showcase ReVIReS associations and the available volunteering opportunities. The week is described by the organizers as more than an isolated event, being an invitation for building a more conscious university committed to the future of people and the planet.
During the week, activities will coincide with the International Year of Volunteering for Sustainable Development and European Car-Free Day. The program is distributed across the university's three campuses, starting at the Rectorate on September 21 and 22, moving to the Faculty of Arts on September 23, and to the Faculty of Medicine on September 24 and 25.
Some activities will require prior registration, allowing students and community members to actively participate in the proposed initiatives. The organizers reinforce that the event is an open invitation for all members of the academic community to engage in these transformative activities.
